The SFB “Meiosis” has been extended for the next four years (2026–2030)!

December 16 2025

We are pleased to announce that the FWF has approved the prolongation of the SFB Meiosis for an additional 4 years. The extension reinforces the SFB’s mission to uncover the fundamental mechanisms of meiotic recombination and genome haploidization, as well as to understand how meiotic programs are repurposed in asexual reproduction.
In the upcoming funding period, Frédéric Berger (GMI) and Simone Köhler (EMBL) will join our consortium, expanding both the repertoire of model organisms and the expertise in AI-based methods and single-molecule microscopy techniques. Additionally, Sven Klumpe (IMBA/IMP) will join as a new national collaborator, bringing advanced expertise in cryo-electron tomography. Franz Klein (Max Perutz Labs) and Anton Golobordko (IMBA) will continue as associated members of the SFB.
